The best known sights of Marbella
Marbella has much more to offer than just luxury and beaches. It is precisely the combination of historic streets, an atmospheric promenade and the famous marina of Puerto Banús that makes this seaside resort so versatile.
Marbella Old Town (Casco Antiguo)
The historic centre of Marbella, also known as the Casco Antiguo, is without a doubt one of the most beautiful parts of the town. As soon as you leave the modern shopping streets behind, you’ll find yourself strolling through a maze of narrow, flower-lined streets, white Andalusian houses and charming squares. Feel free to set aside a couple of hours to wander around without a plan, because it’s precisely down the tiniest alleyways that you’ll discover the nicest little boutiques, tapas bars and hidden terraces.
The vibrant heart of the old town is the Plaza de los Naranjos. This charming square is filled with orange trees and is surrounded by restaurants and cafés where you can enjoy a lovely lunch or a drink. Especially in the evening, it has a lively, typically Spanish atmosphere.
Just a short walk away, you’ll find the remains of the Murallas del Castillo, the old city walls dating from the Moorish period. Although only part of the fortifications has survived, the walls offer a fine insight into Marbella’s rich history.
Be sure to pop into the Iglesia de la Encarnación afterwards, Marbella's impressive church. The richly decorated interior and the magnificent altar, in particular, make a visit well worth it.
Through the atmospheric streets you naturally walk towards Parque de la Alameda, a quiet park with colourful flowers, fountains and shady benches. From here, the famous Avenida del Mar begins, a wide pedestrian promenade towards the sea. Along this boulevard there are several bronze sculptures by Salvador Dalí and you have a wonderful view of the beach and the Mediterranean Sea.

Puerto Banús
Puerto Banús is without a doubt Spain’s best-known and most exclusive marina. Even if you’re not a luxury holidaymaker, it’s definitely worth a visit. Impressive superyachts line the promenade, whilst Ferraris, Lamborghinis, Rolls-Royces and other exclusive sports cars come and go. Just people-watching here is a fun experience in itself.
Around the harbour you will find the world's most famous designer shops, such as Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Dior, Hermès, Valentino, Dolce & Gabbana and many other luxury brands. Even if you don't want to buy anything, it is nice to stroll through the stylish shopping streets and look at the shop windows.
As well as all its luxury, Puerto Banús also has a cosy side. The promenade is lined with terraces, cocktail bars and restaurants where you can enjoy the view of the harbour. During the day, there’s a relaxed holiday atmosphere, whilst in the evening the area transforms into a lively hotspot with atmospheric lighting and cosy bars.
From the harbour, you can easily continue walking along the Paseo Marítimo, the promenade towards Marbella. Along the way, you will pass various beaches, beach clubs and restaurants. This walk is about 7 kilometres long, but of course you can also walk part of it and stop along the way for a drink or lunch.

Seafront
The Paseo Marítimo is the kilometre-long promenade linking Marbella with Puerto Banús and is one of the best places to explore the town at a leisurely pace. During the day, you’ll see joggers, walkers and cyclists enjoying the views over the Mediterranean, whilst in the evening the promenade transforms into a lively spot full of atmosphere, outdoor cafés and live music.
Along the promenade you will find countless cafés, ice cream parlours and restaurants where you can sit down for breakfast, lunch or dinner with a sea view. Along the way you will pass charming little beaches, palm trees and atmospheric squares. The boulevard is largely pedestrianised, making it ideal for a leisurely stroll or renting a bicycle.
A fun way to discover the surrounding area from the water is by hiring a boat in the port of Puerto Banús. You do not need a boating licence for this, and you can hire a boat for 1.5 hours for up to six people from around €80. Sail along the coast, take a refreshing dip in the sea or enjoy the views of Marbella and the luxury villas along the coast along the way.

Climbing La Concha
For nature lovers, a climb up La Concha is an absolute must. At 1,215 metres, this iconic mountain is Marbella’s most recognisable landmark and offers some of the most beautiful views of the Costa del Sol, Gibraltar and, on a clear day, even the coast of Morocco.
The walk is challenging and requires a good level of fitness, but the view from the top is more than worth the effort. It’s best to set off early in the morning and take plenty of water with you.

Caminito del Rey
At about an hour and a half's drive from Marbella lies the spectacular Caminito del Rey. This famous walking route takes you across narrow walkways built high against steep rock faces.
