As soon as you leave the modern shopping streets behind, you’ll find yourself strolling through a maze of narrow, flower-lined streets, white Andalusian houses and charming squares. Feel free to set aside a couple of hours to wander around without a plan, because it’s precisely down the tiniest alleyways that you’ll discover the nicest little boutiques, tapas bars and hidden terraces.

The vibrant heart of the old town is the Plaza de los Naranjos. This charming square is filled with orange trees and is surrounded by restaurants and cafés where you can enjoy a lovely lunch or a drink. Especially in the evening, it has a lively, typically Spanish atmosphere.

Just a short walk away, you’ll find the remains of the Murallas del Castillo, the old city walls dating from the Moorish period. Although only part of the fortifications has survived, the walls offer a fine insight into Marbella’s rich history.

Be sure to pop into the Iglesia de la Encarnación afterwards, Marbella's impressive church. The richly decorated interior and the magnificent altar, in particular, make a visit well worth it.

Through the atmospheric streets you naturally walk towards Parque de la Alameda, a quiet park with colourful flowers, fountains and shady benches.
